Driving experience for people living with sight loss

Are you living with sight loss? Do you miss driving? Perhaps you would like the opportunity to experience driving for the first time?

The Galloway’s Driving Day is taking place on Monday 17th September at the Three Sisters Race track in Wigan. The day offers the opportunity for people who have sight loss to experience driving. During the event, you will get the opportunity to drive around the track in a school of motoring vehicle under full guidance from a qualified driving instructor – who donate their time and skills to make this event happen. You will also have the chance to:

  • Ride in an articulated truck which is kindly provided by Iceland and XPO logistics
  • Ride as a passenger in a classic sports car of various kinds  kindly provided by our wonderful supporters
  • Ride in an Porsche of various kinds provided by our friends from TIPEC

Feedback from the last event in May was fantastic and we were lucky enough to have one of the current Hot Hatch performance cars available in the form of a Honda Civic Type R which was kindly lent to us by Wigan Honda.

At Galloway’s, we understand that driving is something that people miss the most after sight loss. That’s why we work with local driving instructors who donate their time, skills and cars to offer the opportunity of driving.  Blind and partially sighted people can experience something that so many of us take for granted on a daily basis.  In addition to the driving experience, there are also opportunities to be a passenger in a classic car.

Transport can be provided from various pick up points and the day costs just £25. Anybody living with sight loss who would like to attend should call 01772 744148 or email james.coulton@galloways.org.uk.
