Some of Last Year's Holidays
Galloway's holidays last year visited many places of interest. The Charlecote in the Cotswolds was a lovely hotel, the staff made us feel very welcome and we visited many places of interest.
The Isle of Wight for many was an experience as they traveled on the ferry from Portsmouth to Sandown. This holiday will have taken people back in time as there is a much slower pace of life. The weather was excellent which allowed people to sit on the promanade or have a swim, not many took up that offer. A visit to a vinyard was one of the day trips and no one complained at the wine tastng.
The Merrion Hotel in Llandudo was another of the holidays, an excellent hotel on the seafront, where people could sit outside and look over the bay, the hotel is family owned and they pride themselves on serving good homemade food and a enjoyable evening entertainment. Whilst in in Wales many places of interest were visited as well as combining some retail therapy.
Lanzarote was the overseas break this year and it was an early rise to get to Manchester Airport, on arrival at Lanzarote there was the shortest transfer ever, having only just got settled on the coach it was time to get off it took 10 minuetes!! The hotel was excellent and the staff looked after us well, there were two trips out, one was a boat trip where there was lunch and the opportunity to ride on a banana boat and swim in the sea. For the second one, a visit to a volcano where we walked on the hot ground, held the hot embers but not for too long, saw the men put shrubs in the ground and watched them catch fire then into the restaurant the food was cooked from the heat of the volcano.
London was the last holiday for 2011,on arrival in London there was a visit to the Houses of Parliment with a guided tour, then on to a London Pub for a meal before going to the hotel. Saturday presented the chance to get on an amphibias vehicle initially for a trip around London with a guide who explained all the places of interest then on to Victoria Embankment and onto the Thames to see the Houses of Parliment from the waterside. After lunch an opportunity to travel on the London Eye. On the way back to the coach Angie met Jedward who were happy to give an autograph and have a picture taken what a highlight!!
Sunday took us to Covent Garden to shop or sit a listen to the Street Artists, after lunch a visit to the theatre to watch the Lion King, this was an excellent musical and most of the group enjoyed going to a live performance. After the show a dinner in another London pub then back to the hotel for a rest. On Monday after breakfast the agenda was back home via Woburn Abbey, including a guided tour of the Duke of Bedfords stately home in which he lives but he didnt offer morning coffee, so so only soup and sandwiches in the garden restaurant before heading to the M1 NORTH.
