At sometime in our life we all need to talk to someone about our problems and concerns. It is not always easy or appropriate to talk to relatives and close friends and this is where our counselling service could be of benefit to you.

Galloway's provide a professional and confidential counselling service for visually impaired people and their families. We are all qualified and experienced councillors who are aware of the special needs of visually impaired people. We understand the need for confidentiality and will work with you in a caring and sensitive way. It is very much up to the individual as to how long they choose to come along. It could be for one or two visits, or for a much longer period, the choice is yours.

The current team consists of Mike, Heather, Jenny and Eileen all work from Howick House. You can contact any of the councillors through either Lyn Garside at Galloway's on 01772 744148 or Mike on 01772 750780, his email address is mconnah@btopenworld.com

The Society has a team of volunteers who work within local hospitals. Our volunteers visit the eye clinic, eye wards and other wards with an information trolley providing a listening ear and friendly chat.

Our volunteers at the hospital are often the first point of contact with the society upon diagnosis. They will often provide advise be able to invite people to one of our monthly information days, when visually impaired people and their families can come to visit Galloway's and learn a little more about our services, support and equipment.

They also visit members of the society who are admitted as in-patients to the hospital and where necessary ensure that our members are familiarised with their surroundings.
