Activities Update

Regrets that the Driving Evening had to be cancelled, the matter was out of our hands. We are looking for a new venue, so let’s hope we will be successful in the near future.

Friday, 20th June – Water Day

This day will give people the opportunity to have fun canoeing, kayaking and hopefully if the weather permits sailing, it is also a chance to meet with friends and have fun.

Saturday, 28th and 29th June – Morecambe Bay Walk

We have had a very good response from walkers, but don’t forget, if you are unable to do the walk and would like to sponsor someone who is, please contact Kevin Lonergan on 01772 744148 to help raise funds for Galloway’s.

Wednesday, 2nd July – An Evening with Barn Owl Bill

By request we have been asked to mention this event organised by Bilsborough Village Hall starting at 6:30pm, Bill will be giving a talk about the owls that he has rescued with working examples. The cost including refreshments is £1 (children go free), for further details contact Liz Newsham on 01995 640178.

Friday, 8th August – Beauty and the Beast

This is an open air theatre event at Williamson Park in Lancaster, during this evening’s performance there will be an audio description. If you wish to take up this opportunity the box office telephone number is 0845 3440640.

Saturday, 16th August – Children’s Family Fun Day

This event will be held at Galloway’s Penwortham from 10:30am to 3:30pm. Depending on the weather there will be various fun activities including climbing tower, trikes, archery and more.

During August - Virtual Challenges

We have the opportunity to take up 2 Virtual Challenges, one at Fulwood Leisure Centre and the other at Lancaster Farms Young Offenders Prison. If you are interested in doing the Zambezi Blast challenge at Fulwood then contact George Turner on 01772 753706.

The challenge at the prison is a Husky Trail, to participate contact either Tony on 01524 414846 or Lyn on 01772 753704.

During both of these challenges you will have the opportunity to have fun using a variety of equipment including the treadmill and stepper. We would like you to get sponsored by friends and family while you do the challenge.

Lancashire College

‘Jaws’ software has now been installed in their Learn Direct suite. If anyone is interested in learning how the software works by joining a course please contact Jill Pickles on 01257 516358 for further details.

Marathons

Are you interested in running Marathons? We have a lady who is a marathon runner and willing to train someone to run with her, preferably someone living in the Bolton area. If you are interested please contact George Turner for further details on 01772 753706.

Sunday, 7th September – Cricket Match

Under the rules of British Blind Sport a Visually Impaired Cricket Match is to be held at the Old Sharlston Cricket Ground commencing at 1.00 pm approximately. For those who have not been able to play Blind Cricket before they can have a go in the practice nets to give them a feel for the game before going on to the actual pitch.

It is hoped that we will be able to field two teams of Visually Impaired Players on the day. Friday, 5th to 7th September – Open Doors, Art Attack

On this residential we will have the opportunity to do some varied Art Work which will include jewellery making, soap stone rubbing and pewter work. The cost is £45.00 per person, to reserve your place please contact Linda M. McDonald at Lancashire College on 01257 516302.

Sunday, 21st to Sunday, 28th September - The Cumberland Hotel in Scarborough

A holiday to this spacious and very welcoming hotel, although not on the seafront there will be a shuttle service bus to take you to town and the seafront. The cost is £360 per person and includes half board, accommodation, daytrips and insurance. We now only have twin and double rooms available.
