Society for the Blind		 Low Vision Aids and Opticians

There are various types of aids, magnifiers, binoculars, telescopes, etc. which are sometimes helpful for people who cannot be aided by spectacles. These are available through the Low Vision Aid Clinic and are free on the National Health Service.

In the past a patient could only be offered this type of equipment by the Low Vision Aid Clinic at the local hospital, waiting lists were often very long and the ability to be able to swap equipment or ask questions at a later date about useage were almost impossible.

So, Galloway's are working in partnership with other local blind societies, local health authorities and local opticians to enable participating opticians to prescribe and dispence Low Vision Aids. This cuts down waiting times and makes the whole process much more accessible to visually impaired people

Please note that not all areas are taking part in this scheme just yet so please check below to see if there is an optician near you. If there is not you will still be able to visit the Low Vision Aid Scheme at your local hospital - You should discuss with your Opthalmic Consultant the benefits of being referred.
