Volunteers Nedded !!

Fancy earning some extra cash for Christmas?

Galloway’s is looking to employ 4 or 5 people to be Father Christmas in The Mall shopping Centre throughout December working on a rota basis. Santa would operate from the grotto in the Centre right up to Christmas Eve.

This is a major fundraising opportunity for Galloway’s in partnership with The Mall and as such, we are able to pay an attractive hourly rate in return for the commitment.

Further information can be obtained by contacting George Turner or Peter Taylor at Howick House.

Talking News Controllers and Readers

More controllers are required to assist in the production of talking newspapers and magazines at Howick House. If you have any regular hours to spare, perhaps you may wish to consider this new opportunity to learn a new skill. Training will be given to anyone interested.

Vera Waters, life coach, author and inspirational storyteller, has agreed to run a voice workshop for talking news readers. This will be held at Howick House, Penwortham, on Wednesday, March 26th from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon in the large lounge.

Anyone interested in taking part or requiring further information should contact Paul Spencer, Studio Co-Ordinator at Howick House.

Easy Readers - Setting Up in People's Homes

One of the services offered by Galloway’s is to set up easy readers for people living in their own homes.

We are looking for someone to carry out this service. For further details please telephone Kevin Lonergan on Preston 753702 or Galloway’s main number 744148.

ONE-OFF WORKSHOP
News from Morecambe Centre

2008 is a special year for the Morecambe Blind Centre as it is celebrating its Golden Jubilee, 50 years of service to local blind people. Tony Kimpton is calling on our volunteers and members, along with local companies and organisations to help him raise £50,000 for Galloway’s during the next twelve months. In January and February this figure has reached £7,600. Can you help Tony to make this challenge a reality!

Let’s make the Spring Fayre the biggest and best we have ever had. The Fayre will be held at the Morecambe Blind Centre on Saturday, 5th April staring at 1.00pm with admission 50p including refreshments. There will be all the usual stalls; bric-a-brac, cakes, tombola, fruit and veg, talking books and much more. All volunteers, their family and friends are welcome. If you are unable to be with us perhaps you might consider making a donation, cheques should be made payable to Galloway’s. Any suitable items for the event can be left at the Centre.

Hopefully, by the end of this month our Hospital Support Worker, Steve Rayner, will be offering help, advice and information to visually impaired people who pass through the Eye Clinic at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary. Similarly, anyone admitted into hospital can call on Steve to visit them on the ward.

A volunteer is needed to help with the garden at the Centre on a weekly basis. We also need a volunteer to assist with the History Group on a Tuesday afternoon from 2.00 to 4.00pm. Although the volunteer is welcome to join in with the History Group, this is not essential, but someone is needed to do the “brews” and washing up!

If you are able to help, please contact Tony at Morecambe on 01524 414846.

Many thanks to all of our Volunteers for your hard work and commitment to the Society.
