The Morecambe Centre at Balmoral Road

The Galloway's Society for the Blind (Charity No. 526088), was established in 1867, and started to expand services for visually impaired people living in North Lancashire when the Morecambe Blind Centre was acquired. The Centre at Morecambe is managed by Tony Kimpton, Development Worker, who covers the Morecambe, Lancaster and Carnforth areas.

Tony has worked with the Society since 1996, and provides services and support to some 1400 blind and partially sighted people living in this District. When visiting or telephoning the Centre, you could well be welcombed by Irene, Tony's Wife, who is always happy to help. Services include:-

  • Interest Groups and Activities
  • A Home Visiting and Telephone Befriending Service
  • Tape Service, incorporating Talking Books, Magazines, Church Publications and Newspapers
  • Resource Centre and Loan Scheme

Networking with other agencies is essential and a close working relationship is enjoyed with the Lancaster Ophthalmic Department, Social Services, Council for Voluntary Service, Lancaster Adult College, and the Lancaster and Morecambe College.

Other groups are also encouraged to use Galloway's Morecambe so that its facilities are shared within the local community; Job Club, Talking Newspaper Association, Yorkshire Ladies and Torch, as well as by local Voluntary and Statutory Organisations for Courses and Meetings.
