Eye Clinic Liaison Officer

Galloway’s is the leading local charity supporting people affected by sight loss in Lancashire and Sefton. We are currently going through an extensive change programme as we re-design our organisation ensuring we continue to put blind and partially sighted people at the heart of everything we do.

The Role

We are delighted to offer this exciting opportunity to provide support to those experiencing sight loss as a Community Sight Loss Advisor. We have a number of positions available covering various areas in our area including North Lancashire (30 hours per week), Central and West Lancashire (full time 37 hours per week) and a peripatetic worker providing cover where required (30 hours per week).

Who we're looking for

Our Eye Clinic Liaison Officer’s (ECLO) are key in helping patients understand the impact of their diagnosis and providing them with emotional and practical support for their next steps. This is an integral role which ensures we reach people early on in their sight loss journey. Based in the eye clinic at Royal Lancaster Infirmary you will have experience in providing professional information and advice whilst working in a fast paced environment. You’ll need to be a confident communicator and have a passion for helping others. You will want to make a difference!

ECLOs are endorsed by the UK Ophthalmology Alliance (UKOA), the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth), NICE and the Department of Health and Social Care. A qualified ECLO will attend the Eye Clinic Support Studies Course (delivered by RNIB and City University, London), which is a recognised qualification by the UKOA, and adhere to the RNIB Quality Framework for ECLO Services. This training will be provided to the successful candidate.
