Calling all would-be marathon runners

Galloway’s is asking for marathon runners to help raise funds for blind and partially sighted people.

Applicants to next year’s Virgin London Marathon ballot recently learned whether they had secured a ballot place.

The Penwortham charity Galloway’s is now asking people who have their own place, or are looking for a charity place – to get in touch.

Karen Daniels raised funds for Galloway's in the 2019 marathon

Last year, Karen Daniels from Preston signed up to run for Galloway’s and raised £2,493 for the charity.

The 50-year-old quantity surveyor from Preston said: “I wanted to run the London marathon for such a long time. It always looked like such a great event. In the end the day was even better than I’d expected.

“The support and information I received from Galloway’s was amazing. Running for a local charity felt like a really personal experience. If I needed to know something, I could just pick up the phone.

“After the race I bumped into Galloway’s CEO Stuart Clayton at the finish line. It meant so much to have him there thanking me for my efforts. It really was brilliant.”

Last year, runners for Galloway’s raised £12,174 to help local blind and partially sighted people. The charity is now urging others to consider Galloway’s when choosing a marathon charity place.

Events Fundraiser Charlotte Carnell said: “The Virgin London Marathon is a fantastic event.

“There is nothing quite like the buzz and excitement of marathon morning in London which is why it is one of the most popular marathons in the world.

“If you have secured a place, we would love it if you would consider using it to support Galloway’s.

“We offer full training support, a running vest and the chance to join an amazing team of runners.

“And, if you were unsuccessful in the ballot and are now looking for a charity place we have five up for grabs.

“Our fundraising target for these places is £1,800.

“Last year our London Virgin Marathon runners raised a fantastic amount for the charity. Their wonderful efforts meant made an enormous difference to people living with sight loss in our local community.”

Virgin London Marathon 2020 takes place on Sunday April, 26. To find out more or to secure a place contact Charlotte Carnell on 01772 744 148 or charlotte.carnell@galloways.org.uk
