Sight loss charity Galloway’s is delivering hampers to elderly visually impaired people in the Lancaster district over the festive period.

The team at Galloway’s packed the hampers and is distributing them to 40 blind and partially sighted people aged over 90 as part of their Virtual Christmas Hugs initiative.

This was made possible by Lancaster City Council and Lancaster District CVS, who awarded Galloway’s a grant of £556 from the Lancaster Community Fund. Morrisons, in Morecambe, has also supported Galloway’s by providing a discount for the items.

Pam Whitaker, sight loss advisor at Galloway’s in Morecambe, said: “We are really grateful to Lancaster City Council and Lancaster District CVS for allowing us to launch our Virtual Christmas Hug initiative. Thanks to the funding, we have been able to donate hampers to 40 visually impaired people aged over 90 who have regularly requested welfare calls from us over the past few months.

“I also wish to thank Karen Brook, community champion at Morrisons, who has gone above and beyond in helping us with the food items. She also gave up her time to individually decorate the bags, which look amazing. We cannot thank her enough.

“Everyone who has received a hamper so far has been so appreciative and it has brightened up their day.”
