Volunteers at the Galloway's gardening club, based in Penwortham, have been honoured with an Outstanding commendation from Royal Horticultural Society and North West in Bloom's 2021 It's Your Neighbourhood Award.

Jim Towersey, who leads the club, which meets every Wednesday, said: “We are over the moon to have won this award. Everyone has worked really hard to get this.

“We now have four Outstanding awards, so if we get another next year we will get the gold award, which could be absolutely fantastic.”

The club, which consists mainly of blind and partially sighted people, was set up six years ago and members have been working on features including a scented garden and wildflower bed.
