Santas were hula hooping and running their way through Penwortham to raise more than £1,500 for blind and partially sighted people as part of the Galloway’s Santa Dash.

More than 50 people joined the 3k route along Liverpool Road, including members of Up Fit Hoop Troop, who hula hooped through the 3k route along Liverpool Road, as well as two young reindeer.

Georgia Murphy, Corporate and Community Coordinator at sight loss charity Galloway’s, said: “We had a brilliant day with all our Santas and it was great to see everyone turn out to show their support for us.

“We are really proud of the community who rallied round to join us and raise £1,596. We recognised several faces from our previous dash in 2019 so it was lovely to see them again, as well as welcome new faces.

“There was a great camaraderie during the event as everyone cheered each other on and joined in the spirit of things. The runners did incredibly well and we are grateful to them for taking part to raise money for people with sight loss.

“We want to say a big thank you to everyone who joined us and to Penwortham Town Council for once again supporting us.”

David Bennett, Mayor of Penwortham Town Council, who set the runners off at the start line, said: “At Penwortham Town Council we are always happy to support this community event, which is proving to be very popular and well followed in Penwortham.

"It is fantastic to be back this year and see all the community get together to support such a wonderful charity.”

One of the runners was Gillian Minshall, from Leyland. She said: “It was a lovely route and very accessible, with lots of support along the way. We had a fantastic morning and it was well worth getting involved in.”

Galloway’s is also inviting supporters who could not make the event to take part in their own way by running or walking 3k where they live any time this month. To register for a Santa suit and medal, visit
