Saluting the Spirit of Our 89-Year-Old Volunteer...

This month, we're hosting our first-ever Fire Walk to raise funds for local people with sight loss. Scheduled for Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at Galloways' head office, this event will see community members, including 89-year-old volunteer Ann Hyde, walk over hot coals to demonstrate their courage and commitment.

This week also marks Volunteer Awareness Week, making it an ideal time to celebrate volunteers' dedication. The event showcases the community's incredible spirit and dedication to supporting local people with visual impairments. Funds raised will support the charity's services, providing opportunities to enrich the lives of people with sight loss across the local community.

"Our Fire Walk is not just a challenge; it's a chance for the community to support local people with sight loss. We are especially proud of Ann Hyde, who at 89 years old, demonstrates the spirit of commitment and courage that defines our volunteers. Join us in this daring event to raise awareness and essential funds," said Sharon Plunkett, Income Generation Manager.

Ann Hyde shared her excitement, saying, "I've been volunteering with Galloways for many years, and it's been a rewarding experience. The Fire Walk Challenge is a great way to show our commitment and raise awareness for a cause that's close to my heart. I'm looking forward to taking on this challenge and hope it inspires others to get involved."

Registration starts at 6:30 PM, with the Fire Walk beginning at 7:15 PM. Participants will receive a comprehensive safety briefing, and safety gear and first aid will be available on-site. After completing the Fire Walk, participants will be awarded a certificate of completion.
