Galloway's has been honoured with an award for its work in supporting blind and partially sighted people during the pandemic.

Preston Mayor, Coun Javed Iqbal, visited the centre in Penwortham to present the team with the Mayor of Preston's Coronavirus Pandemic City Hero Award.

The award recognises the impact organisations and individuals have made to the Preston community over the past year.

Stuart Clayton, CEO of Galloway’s, said: “We are incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication of all our staff and volunteers during such a challenging time and so I am delighted that they are being recognised through this award.

“We are grateful for the support of Preston City Council and congratulate all the other organisations and individuals who have pulled together in such tough circumstances.”

The Mayor, Coun Iqbal, said: “The pandemic has been an incredibly difficult time for many of our residents but during this time we have also witnessed the great things that we can achieve when we come together as a community. Time and time again, community organisations and individuals have gone above and beyond to support their community and have played a vital role in supporting people in need.

“We know that it isn’t over yet, that the virus continues to circulate and we must all continue to do what we can to reduce the impact that it can have. However, Preston City Council is keen to ensure that community groups and individuals such as Galloway’s begin to receive the recognition they rightly deserve.”

During his visit to Galloway’s, the Mayor was given an insight into all the new and innovative ways the team has been supporting blind and partially sighted people over the past 17 months.
